It started with a simple truth: dull tools waste time, cause frustration, and can even be dangerous. We believed there had to be a better way to keep the tools people rely on sharp, without the hassle or guesswork.

From there, Van Lanen Sharpening was born—a mobile and drop-off service built on precision, reliability, and a bit of dry humor to keep things fun. We’ve worked with everyone from dog groomers and stylists who need perfect, clean cuts, to home cooks and gardeners who just want their tools to work the way they should.

Professional Credibility: As an ISSA-certified sharpening professional, I follow industry recognized standards in scissor and shear sharpening.  The ISSA certification reflects advanced skills, precision training, and a commitment to excellence.

Local & mobile: We bring the sharpening shop to you—or welcome you at our drop-off locations.

For pros & homes: Groomers, stylists, chefs, hobby gardeners… if it cuts, we can likely make it better.

Driven by precision: We use professional techniques and BESS sharpness testing to ensure every edge is up to standard.

How We Work

1. Choose how to get your tools to us

Mobile service – We show up at your location with our equipment and handle the work on-site.

There is a $125.00 minimum order for mobile sharpening

Drop-off – Leave your tools at our partnered locations; we return them sharp and ready.

Shipping – Send them in, and we’ll mail them back.

2. We do our thing
Each blade is inspected, cleaned, sharpened, and tested. We aim for edges that cut cleanly and last.

3. You get tools that feel brand-new
